Ever wondered what it takes to light up one of Asia’s busiest water parks?
We just wrapped up a massive installation at Chimelong in Guangzhou—home to multiple world records and millions of annual visitors who now get to experience their favorite rides in a whole new light (literally).
The brief? Transform their world-record attractions into nighttime spectacles while keeping it simple for daily operations.
We deployed 36 STORM 10 controllers with RDS4 splitters across two zones—Zone A handles the mind-bending HIVE 35 Family Tower Complex, while Zone B brings the HydroMAGNETIC LIM MAMMOTH Coaster to life. That’s 330+ DMX universes (168,960 channels for those keeping count) all running through fiber optic backbone with Cat5e distribution.
But here’s the clever bit: the dual-zone architecture means maintenance crews can service one attraction while the other keeps the light show running.
From the control room, the ELM server (ultimate version) manages the entire system while the S-Play’s customized control interface handles the day-to-day operations—unified scheduling, zone control, you name it.
Together they send DMX512 signals to all six fixture types across the park: flexible wall washers painting slides in brilliant colors, flexible outline lights tracing architectural edges, regular wall washers for area coverage, flood lights illuminating guest spaces, firefly lights adding that magical sparkle, and gobo projectors creating rippling water effects on walkways.
The best part is that we built expansion right into the DNA of this system. Adding new attractions is as simple as mounting more controllers and extending the fiber network. And with room to grow beyond the current two zones… who knows what might light up next? 😉
Next time you’re at Chimelong after dark, take a moment to appreciate those 36 STORM 10s working their magic. Because turning a water park into a nighttime wonderland? That’s what we call making a splash.
